Good For You | Fall Foods for Better Skin

With fall comes the harvest of many nutritious fruits and vegetables that offer nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy and strong, along with providing protection and nourishment for skin. While skincare products feed skin from the outside, it is important to feed skin from the inside too. Choose these foods this fall to maximize nutrients for optimal skin health.

Carrots
Carrots are a staple vegetable that is a top source of beta-carotene, an antioxidant that converts to vitamin A inside the body and helps protect skin from UV rays by protecting against free radical damage. Increasing Vitamin A intake can also help repair the complexion faster from sunburns and cuts.

Pomegranates
Pomegranates are a powerhouse fruit packed with antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects for skin. This fruit aids in the production of collagen and is a rich source of vitamin E. Together they defend against the signs of aging and protect the skin from free radical damage.

Pumpkin + Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkins are loaded with zinc which encourages cell renewal and protects skin against infection, and beta carotene, which along with sun protection, helps skin  glow.

Beets
Beets contain several vitamins and minerals, including potassium, fiber, iron, vitamins A, B and C, as well as magnesium, which ward off free radicals that lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Magnesium also helps prevent skin allergies and eczema flare-ups.

Cranberries
Small and mighty, this fall berry packs a punch for complexions. The phytonutrients in cranberries and their juice have potent anti-inflammatory properties, helping to keep pimples and longer-lasting acne at bay.

Apples
Apples are on the top 20 list of foods with the most antioxidants, helping to prevent skin cell damage. This super fruit also contains Vitamin B, which aid in combating acne and other skin irritations.

Cauliflower
Cauliflower is full of folate which helps skin retain moisture and encourages cells to grow and divide. This vegetable is a great substitute for potatoes or rice.

Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of Vitamin A, which may protect skin from the sun, along with improving skin dryness and wrinkles. They are also a good source of Vitamin C, which creates collagen. Collagen keeps your skin firm, strong and reduces appearance of dry skin and wrinkles.

Nuts
Almonds, walnuts, pecans and other nuts are loaded with vitamins, antioxidants and minerals that help keep skin moisturized and balanced, while aiding in cell damage repair. Nutrients like Vitamin E, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Zinc, Fiber and Vitamin B contribute to more resilient and clear skin.
