When you think of castor oil, a bar of soap might come to mind. The vegetable oil has a slew of uses and benefits for the body (and hair), since its a rich fatty acid with antimicrobial properties, and it’s one that’s easy to buy as a stand-alone ingredient or in different types of soaps. Since it has so many beauty uses, we’ve asked dermatologists and other pros just what benefits you can reap by using castor oil for skincare in your routine.
Your skin is more complex than you may realize — consider how easy it is for a breakout to come on if you touch your face, or for your skin to get irritated if you add a new product into your routine, or for the weather to make your face dry. There’s a science behind skincare — a lot of it, actually. Do you remember learning about pH levels in high school science class? It applies to more than just experiments; keeping your skin’s natural pH level in check is important for maintaining healthy and happy skin.
Skincare is all the rage, but it’s not the most approachable topic. From exfoliants and acids to serums and creams, it can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. Serums are meant to be used after cleansing in order to deliver moisture and antioxidants directly to the skin, increase collagen production, and brighten the complexion.
The Independent consulted dermatologists and skincare enthusiasts to determine which facial serums, from budget to luxury, are worth your time and money.
When it comes to taking care of our skin, there are so many things to consider.
Not only do you have to choose from toners, serums, creams and moisturizers, but you need to make sure they’re good for your skin. Since we all have different skin types, we have varying needs, meaning the products we use will also be different. Most people fall under one of the five major skin types: normal, dry, oily, combination and sensitive. We spoke with Dr. Hadley King, board-certified dermatologist, about a moisturizer in particular.
“I love the GoodJanes skincare products – the gentle and moisturizing formulations are elegant and so fun to use. The naturally derived ingredients are great for skin and are clearly listed with their functions so it makes it super easy to incorporate GoodJanes skincare into an everyday routine. It’s an added benefit that the products are vegan, and not tested on animals. Some of my personal favorite products from the collection include Face The Morning Foaming Cleanser, Say Goodnight Cleansing Balm, Best Facial Oil, H20 My Good Water Moisturizer, and the Eye Swear Moisturizing Cream. ”
